Patient Testimonial

We were so grateful to learn of Bethesda Health Clinic from some of our friends in Youth With A Mission. My wife Janice and I have been missionaries with YWAM since 1964. We've served in more than 30 countries. We came to Tyler in 1975 with a small team of YWAMers, to start a new operating location for our mission - one with a special purpose: to train missionaries in communications skills.

However, we have found ourselves in the situation faced by many other working class Americans with no health insurance. Our missions support base of donors was not large enough to include the hefty insurance premiums for the self-employed. As we have gotten older, we have been praying fervently for a solution - both short-term and long-term.

We believe God answered our prayers for the short-term with Bethesda Health Clinic. The first time we walked in, we were met by professional doctors and nurses. We could tell they were giving themselves to help out of their desire to serve Jesus. What a blessing!

Last spring, I had a health crisis. On a previous visit to Bethesda , the doctor said I needed an immediate colonoscopy to learn the cause of my severe anemia. Thinking we could not get this test done at Bethesda , we phoned one of Tyler 's hospitals. A colonoscopy there would cost me around $4,500 as an uninsured patient. We didn't know what to do, but we kept praying for God to make a way for us.

A few weeks later, one of the nurses at Bethesda called to check whether I had gotten a colonoscopy exam yet. When I told her I hadn't, she let me know that they now had that capability at Bethesda . I was able to get it done immediately, for $50. They found the source of the bleeding, and it was a relatively minor thing. We received this news with such joy and gratefulness to God. We are so blessed by the love and encouragement we have received every time we have gone to Bethesda . Each time, we have been treated with respect as the various health care professionals have helped us with various health needs.

We are still praying for a long-term solution, hoping to get more missions donors for our work so that we can buy health insurance. Until that happens, though, we are truly grateful for everyone who has made Bethesda Clinic possible. Thank you so much.

In His Name,

Jim Rogers
